Salivary Gland Scintigraphy

  • Also Known As

In this nuclear medicine test, a radioactive tracer, technetium 99, is used to assess the pattern of uptake and secretion of the tracer by the salivary glands. A gamma scintillation camera detects the radiation and produces an image. The test can help your doctor to know the cause of dry mouth (xerostomia) or swelling in the salivary glands.
